Textile sludge, printing sludge and dyeing sludge can be clarified as organic sludge and inorganic sludge. The main component of organic sludge is organic matters, and also contains solid organic waste formed by sedimentation and oily sludge. The organic sludge with high organic contents and easily stink of corruption and become smelly. The sludge particles are small, often in flocculation state with high water content and water-holding capacity, low relative density. Inorganic sludge, also known as slime, it features relatively lower density, large groups of particles, no corruption, poor water holding capacity, low moisture content, and good stability.

In addition, since the textile sludge contains dyes, syrups and auxiliaries, which have a large amount of heavy metal elements such as Nitro and Amino compounds and copper, chromium, zinc and arsenic. So it with great boilogical toxicity and threats to pollute the environment.

Although textile, printing and dyeing sludge can not be directly defined as hazardous waste, because of its composition complexity, there are some environmental risks if were treated as a general solid waste treatment. Therefore, Ministry of Environmental Protection provides “Textile, printing and dyeing sludge easily lead to secondary Pollution or become a legacy of land pollution, is strictly prohibited landfill or direct exposure in the wilderness”. Therefore, for textile printing and dyeing enterprises, how to avoid secondary pollution and properly dispose of the sludge produced in production has become an important environmental issue.
